Trust God --- Always

GOD PAUSE: Yesterday, I was reading about a time in David's life that I would describe as adding insult to injury. He had to give up his throne as king because of the betrayal of his son, Absalom. Then when leaving Jerusalem a guy named Shimei hurled rocks and curses at him. When Abishai told David he would take care of the situation by cutting Shimei's head off David says in 2 Samuel 16:12 “Maybe the Lord will look at everything done against me and render something good in its place today.” Dear Papa, help my friend and I to trust you always --- even when we don't understand what it happening. You are still there and still working. Amen and amen.

Tightly Wrapped!

GOD PAUSE: I just love how the Word of God speaks into my heart and life, don't you? There's a couple powerful things it says to me and you. We see the heart of God. And we discover how God sees us. For instance in Psalm 119:114 it says “You're my place of quiet retreat, and your wrap-around presence becomes my shield as I wrap myself in your word!” So, guess what? We are a pretty tight package. I love that, don't you? We are double wrapped! Hallelujah! Dear Papa, thank You for Your wrap-around presence today. And for the joy and blessing of being wrapped up in Your words, too. My friend and I are a beautiful package, all because of You. Amen and amen.

Your Future --- You and God

GOD PAUSE: Good morning, my friend. In our time together right now, I want to share what I think is a pretty awesome fact about your future --- and my future. It's found in Proverbs 16:9. It says “Within your heart you can make plans for your future, but the Lord chooses the steps you take to get there.” Wow! What a promise! May it sink deeply inside of us. You and I make plans for tomorrow --- and we should. But it's a loving heavenly Father that will direct our steps to get us there. We move. He directs. Dear Papa, my friend and I thank You that our future is intertwined with Your hand working in the details. So as we step out, we trust You to give us the step by step process to get us the

Some Just Won't Understand

GOD PAUSE: In my Bible reading a little bit ago, I was reminded about the fact that some people just won't understand me, finding it difficult to relate to my passion or love for the Lord. You see, once the Lord comes into your life, everything changes. Your direction. Your decision-making. Your life-style. David says in Psalms 68:8, 9 “You know my brothers and sisters? They now reject me --- they act as if I never existed. I”m like a stranger to my own family. And here's why. I am consumed with You,” Dear Papa, You have completely taken my heart. And so I am devoted to pleasing You with my life. Help me to know some around me won't understand that. But I can still love and point them to You

God Goes Ahead of You!

GOD PAUSE: This morning I read a chapter in Psalm that used the word “selah” several times. According to some Bible scholars, it's a word after a Bible verse that's so important God etches it in the stone walls around his throne room. Well, Psalm 68:7 it says “O Lord, it was you who marched in front of your people, leading them through the wasteland.” Oh my dear friend, get this picture --- God always goes before you. No matter what lies ahead, He not only knows it, He is going to be ahead of you, preparing the way. And He will be faithful to take you through it safely. It is etched in heaven. Dear Lord, help me and my friend to peaceful rest in this truth today. And every day. Amen and amen

You are Surrounded --- by God!

GOD PAUSE: A very BIG Good Morning to you, my friend. I want to share a verse with you right now that I read about what to do when you are overwhelmed with stuff in life. And the reason it's important is because how we respond can really change things for you and me. Psalm 116:10, 11 says “Even when it seems I'm surrounded by many liars and my own fears, and though I'm hurting in my suffering and trauma, I still stay faithful to God and speak words of faith.” So Dear Papa, now matter what surrounds us right now, my friend and I will still be faithful in loving and following after You. And we will declare over our lives what your Word and your promises say. Amen and amen.

Constructive Criticism

GOD PAUSE: I heard someone say the other day that you can tell how spiritual or mature a person is by how he or she handles criticism or correction. And then today, I read in Proverbs 15:31, 32 “Accepting constructive criticism opens your heart to the path of life, making you right at home among the wise. Refusing constructive criticism shows you have no interest in improving your life, for revelation-insight only comes as you accept correction and the wisdom it brings.” Dear Papa, that's some pretty tough stuff. So help me and my friend to be open and thankful for the constructive criticism we need in our lives. No matter where it come from. Amen and amen.

God of the Breakthrough

GOD PAUSE: I want you to know today that God is the only one who can bring a breakthrough in your life. So, what is your battle or struggle that is bigger than you right now? It is a relationship thing? Or an addiction that has a hold you can't shake off? Or maybe something of your past that won't let go? A problem that seems like it'll never go away? Whatever it is, the battle isn't yours. It's God's. When King David asked if he should go against the Philistines, God gave the victory. 2 Samuel 5:20 says “So David battled the Philistines and defeated them. He said 'The LORD has broken through my enemies in front of me like water bursting through a dam. That is why the place was named “The LO

Happiness, Plain & Simple

GOD PAUSE: “Good Morning!” to you, my dear friend. God's best to you as you get ready to start off today. I have a question to ask you --- Where can happiness be found? Is it when things are going well? In friendships or relationships that make us feel loved? Or getting the things we want most? Well, David shares with us in Psalm 119:1 that “You're only truly happy when you walk in God's utterances, walking in the light of God's word.” I would say that is pretty simplistic and straight-forward, wouldn't you? Dear Papa, when it's all said and done, my and my friend's happiness is connected with hearing you speak into our lives --- and then living it out. Plain and simple. Help us to do that e

Lay it at His Feet!

GOD PAUSE: My heart is so full this morning as I read Psalm chapter 55. David covers a lot of territory in those verses. He talks about wanting to run away somewhere because of life's pressures. He experienced the pain of being betrayed by his closest friend. And he felt the heaviness of carrying his anxieties and cares. But then he says in verse 22 “So here's what I've learned through it all. Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you.” Dear Papa, my friend and I are so blessed that we can do exactly that right now. So we move our souls to you. We release it all to you. Leaving it all there. And trusting You to show up and do what y

Celebrate God's Goodness!

GOD PAUSE: You and I have so much to celebrate in life. Michele and I are at a very sweet spot in life ---- seeing the blessings of God to the second and third generation. Granddaughter Kami graduates from college. Grandson Kaleb graduates from high school. I was just reading this morning in Psalm, 32:7 where David says “So celebrate the goodness of God! He shows this kindness to everyone who is his. Go ahead—shout for joy, all you upright ones who want to please him!” Dear Papa, my friend and I have so much to celebrate in our lives. And it's all because of You! All we need to do is just look around. Your fingerprints are all over our lives. Amen and amen.

Unshakable & Unmoved

GOD PAUSE: I am a happy man this morning! You might wonder why. Well, I was able to have my quiet time with God outside in the warm sunshine. Let me share a couple verses I read in Psalm 46:2, 3. “So we will never fear even if every structure of support were to crumble away. We will not fear even when the earth quakes and shakes, moving mountains and casting them into the sea. For the raging roar of stormy winds and crashing waves cannot erode our faith in you.” Dear Papa, how thankful I and my friend are that we have an unshakable foundation and faith in You. You are our support when everything around us is crumbling. You hold us all together. Amen and amen.

Rise Up, O Lord!

GOD PAUSE: I pray that you have a day full of God's radiant light and warm presence. I was reading a couple of chapters in the book of Psalms this morning and I saw David emotions and thoughts swinging one way and then the other. He was euphoric about God's miracles and presence and then heartbroken at His seeming silence and uncaring attitude later. Maybe David was speaking about the raw ups and downs of his own life experiences. But he concludes in Psalm 44:26 by saying “Arise, awake, and come to help us, O Lord. Let your unfailing love save us from this sorrow!” Dear Papa, the bottom line is that my friend and I desperately need you. Right now. Because of you unfailing love for us, we ask

Talk to Yourself!

GOD PAUSE: A very BIG “Good Morning!” to you. I have a question for you --- Have you ever talked to yourself? Well, if you're like me, the answer is “Yes!” But guess what? You are in good company. In the Bible, David talked to himself when he was depressed and in despair. And it helped point him to hope and peace. He says in Psalm 42:11 “So I say to my soul 'Don't be discouraged. Don't be disturbed. For I know my God will break through for me.' Then I'll have plenty of reasons to praise him all over again. Yes, living before his face is my grace!” Well, Dear Lord, I and my friend come before you right now. And like David, we get caught up in circumstances that bring depression and anxiety. B

Moving or Touching God's Heart

GOD PAUSE: Here's a good indicator that you or I are on track with God --- do we want to please Him? I mean, “What can I do that moves or touches the heart of God?” That's a pretty big question, but the answer isn't all that complicated. Actually, David talks about that in Psalm 40. So here's what he says in verse 8 --- “I delight to fulfill your will, my God, for your living words are written upon the pages of my heart.” The greatest “sacrifice” we can bring to God is a surrendered heart that just wants to live out what His living words say. Well, dear Lord, that begins with a willing heart. So my friend and I surrender to do Your will. With Your help, we will live out what we see in Your W

She Prayed for Me!

GOD PAUSE: A BIG Good Morning to you, my friend. And Happy Mother's Day to all the moms. You know, one of life's greatest blessings is that of a praying mother. And I had one. And my mother-in-law, too. It is somewhat ironic that I have written above today date in my One Year Bible “2017. Today we celebrate Alice's life. More than anything, she was a lady who prayed for us, like Samuel did for Saul. I miss her so much already.” I Samuel 12:23 says “As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you.” Heavenly Father, how grateful my friend and I are for those who faithfully pray for us. And may we be that kind of person for others, too. Amen and amen.

Living by the Spirit

GOD PAUSE: You know, it's a very sobering but a very true thought that this is the only shot we get at life. Right here and right now is it. There are no re-dos. No make-overs. So you and I need to make it count. And that's where the Holy Spirit of God comes in. Galatians 5:25 reminds us that “If we claim to live by the Holy Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage --- our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit.” Dear Lord, my friend and I want to finish well in this thing called life. And we want to do it right one day at a time. So we need your help. A lot of it. So fill us with Your Spirit, empowering us with Your strength. Amen and

Walking in Step with God

GOD PAUSE: Good Morning to ya! I just wanted to share with you something I read yesterday in the my Bible. It gives you and me a picture of what it looks like to be walking in step with God through our day. Galatians 5:25, 26 says “We must live in the Holy Spirit and follow after him. So may we never be arrogant, or look down on another, for each of us in an original. We must forsake all jealousy that diminishes the value of others!” Dear Papa, that is sure a wake-up call for me. You know that my desire is to walk in step with You through my day. And that will spill over into how I see and treat others around me. So, I need Your help as I journey. Amen and amen.

God is Stretching your Faith!

GOD PAUSE: You and I both know that the lifestyle or path of a Jesus follower involves faith. But sometimes faith is a little hard to describe or understand. So God gives us pictures or stories in the Bible to help us. And one of those is when Jesus was about to feed the multitude. John 6:5, 6 says “As Jesus sat down, he looked out and saw the massive crowd of people scrambling up the hill, for they wanted to be near him. So he turned to Philip and said 'Where will we buy enough food to feed all these people?' Now Jesus already knew what he was about to do, but he said this to stretch Philip's faith.” Dear Papa, you are stretching my and my friend's faith. You already know what you are going

Experiencing Eden!

GOD PAUSE: Good Morning to you, my dear friend. Have you ever thought much about what it was like in the Garden of Eden? Perfect beauty and environment. Living in the very presence of God, walking with him through it all. Companionship in its perfection. Well, listen to what David says in Psalm 36:8,9 “All may drink of the anointing from the abundance of your house. All may drink their fill from the delightful springs of Eden. To know you is to experience a flowing fountain, drinking in your life, springing up to satisfy. In the light of your holiness we receive the light of revelation.” Dear Papa, may it be so in my and my friend's life today. And every day. Amen and amen.
