No Stumbling block

GOD PAUSE: One of the powerful things that happens in my life after God comes in to live is that I want to please Him in my actions. I have been given a new heart that has new desires. And I need God's help to walk out those new desires. For instance in Romans 14:21, I was just reading, “Consider it an act of love to refrain from eating meat or drinking wine or doing anything else that would cause a fellow believer to be offended or tempted to be weakened in his faith.” Father, you know my heart. I am challenged every day to walk out your words, to demonstrate the new way, the new path you have for me. May my actions strengthen and not weaken the faith of those around me. Amen and amen.

New Identity, New Mission!

GOD PAUSE: The Lord wants you to know that as you go through the journey of today --- know who you are and what you have inside of you. You are no ordinary person. God has made you extraordinary. He was given you a new identity, doing away with your past one. Your darkness has turned to light, the light of Jesus inside you. The Lord says to you to “Fully immerse yourselves into the Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, and don't waste even a moment's thought on your former identity to awaken its selfish desires” (Romans 13:14). Dear Papa, may my friend and I put on Jesus today, leaving our old identity in the past where it belongs. Fill us with the light of your Son as we go through our day. The atm

Clashing with the Culture

GOD PAUSE: While it's not for you or me to judge the standards or actions of those around us, it is our responsibility to demonstrate a different lifestyle than the culture around us. Paul says it so well in Romans 12:2. It reads “Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total transformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God's will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in His eyes.” Dear Papa, when I and my friend are surrendered to please you --- that is true worship. May how we think and live be motivated and gauged by your standard and not by the world around us. Amen and

Your Past, Your Present, & Your Future

GOD PAUSE: A very BIG “Good Morning!” to you, my dear friend. I want to share a Bible verse with you today where God talks about your past, your present and your future. It's found in Psalm 139:5. It says “You have gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart a blessing to me.” Dear Papa, you permeate every aspect of my life. My past cannot harm me. My future is as bright as your Presence. And my present is blessed with your hand of favor and love. Thank You for being so involved in my life. Amen and amen.

It's Really not your Battle!

GOD PAUSE: I have some very good news for you today. It's about the battle you are in right now. The struggle that you are facing. It seems like the fight of your life. But please listen to 2 Chronicles 20:15 --- “The Lord says this to you: ‘Don’t be afraid or worry about this large army, because the battle is not your battle. It is God’s battle!” The Bible goes on to say that the enemy you see today will be no more tomorrow. Be assured that the Lord has heard you prayer. And He has taken the battle seriously. He has taken it as His very own. Take your hand off of it and rest in God's ability to fight for you. The victory is on the way. Be blessed as you rest in God's promise!

Why God Has 2 Hands

GOD PAUSE: A very BIG “Good Morning!” to you, my friend! I pray you have a day filled with God's presence and good things. Hey, I have a question for you. What would you say is God's biggest attribute or characteristic? I mean as it relates to your own experiences with Him. For me, it's simply the fact that he is always with me. Always there. Always beside me. I was just reading yesterday in Psalm 138:7, 8 where David says “When I walk into the thick of trouble, keep me alive in the angry turmoil. With one hand strike my foes. With your other hand save me. Finish what you started in me, God. Your love is eternal, so don't quit on me now.” Dear Papa, thanks for these words of encouragement. M

Quiet Restfulness

GOD PAUSE: I don't know if you're like me, but I'm more of a visual learner. I can grasp things much easier when a word picture is given to me. And the same is true when I think about my relationship with God. Just this morning, I was reading David's words in Psalm 131:2, 3 where he says “I am humbled and quieted in Your presence. Like a contented child who rests on its mother's lap, I'm your resting child and my soul is content in you. O people of God, your time has come to quietly trust, waiting upon the Lord now and forever.” Dear Papa, may I and my friend crawl into your lap and find the quiet restfulness of trusting you right now in our lives. Amen and amen.

Wrap-around Presence

GOD PAUSE: I may have been born in flatland northern Ohio, but I've always loved the mountains. I think it's because they have such a sense of peacefulness and stability. Maybe that's why David says in Psalm 125:2 “Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord's wrap-around presence surrounds his people, protecting them now and forever.” My dear friend, I pray that you sense and feel God's protection and loving nearness right now. Yes, especially right now. Dear Papa, I pray a release of your wrap-around presence in my friend's life right now. Like a warm blanket, let it be a very noticeable thing. Amen and amen.

Trust God's Timing

GOD PAUSE: A very BIG “Good Morning!” to you, my friend. I was thinking this morning about something you and I hear a lot --- that God has a plan or purpose for your life. And He truly does, I believe. But His plan or destiny for you and me is daily. One step at a time. And that's where faith comes in. Psalm 16:5 says “Lord, I have chosen you alone as my inheritance. You are my prize, my pleasure, and my portion. I leave my destiny and its timing in your hands.” Dear Papa, right here and now we declare that we trust you to unfold and fulfill your plan for our lives, step by step and moment by moment. We put it all in Your hands, your loving and guiding hands. Amen and amen.

When I Wander

GOD PAUSE: One of my favorites stories in the Bible is the life of David. God called him from being a shepherd to prepare him to be a king. David knew a lot about sheep and it prepared to shepherd a nation. David knew that sheep have a tendency to wander off. To get into danger. To leave their place of safety and provision. David describes God's heart in Psalm 119:176 “I'll never forget what you've taught me, Lord. But when I wander off and lose my way, come after me, for I am your beloved!” Dear Papa, my friend and I belong to you. We are the sheep of your pasture. And your heart is always to come after us when we drift away. Amen and amen.

In God's Eyes

GOD PAUSE: Well, Hallelujah! Praise the Lord for His wonderful love and goodness to us! We just can't thank Him enough for all that He is and does. I want you to just listen to what Romans 5:1 says. It's so powerful. Paul says “Our faith in Jesus transfers God's righteousness to us and he now declares us flawless in his eyes. This means we can now enjoy true and lasting peace with God, all because of what our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, has done for us.” And that, my dear friend, is how God sees you through His eyes. Dear Papa, we are sinless and perfect because of what Jesus did for us on that cross. May we walk in that today. Amen and amen.

When Life is Hard

GOD PAUSE: I have a couple Bible verses that I want to share with you right now. With very little commentary. Just let the Lord speak to your heart. It's found in Lamentations 3:28 – 30. The Lord says there “When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Don't ask questions. Wait for hope to appear. Don't run from trouble. Take it full-face. The worst is never the worst.” Dear Papa, may your words here resonant in each and every heart that hear them today. As we respond to what you are telling us, you will be faithful to do your part. Amen and amen.

Your Decision Maker

GOD PAUSE: I have a question for you this morning --- What is it that makes you tick? What means more to you than anything else ? It's probably not as hard to answer that question that you might think. I've been reading the past few days in Psalm 119 where David talks about one of his biggest passions --- his love for the words of God. In Psalm 119:105 he says “Truth's shining light guides me in my choices and decisions. The revelation of your word make my pathway clear.” Dear Papa, may the passion for your words consume our lives. May my friend and I live on the clear path by making all of our decisions using the compass of your words. Amen and amen.

God's Perfect Word!

GOD PAUSE: If I had to answer the question “Who in the Bible was really close to God?”, I would have a person in the New Testament and another in the Old Testament in mind --- John the disciple and King David. As I'm going through Psalm 119, I can see David's heart after God is so connected to his love of God's words. In verse 96 he says “So I've learned that there is nothing perfect in this imperfect world except your words, for they bring such fantastic freedom into my life.” Oh dear Papa, there's nothing like your words that you speak into our lives. They give us such freedom --- a freedom that breaks the chains of our past and causes freedom to enjoy the life of following after your hear

When God is Distant

GOD PAUSE: For just a minute, I want to share something from God's heart with you. Actually it's a verse in the Bible found in Psalm 10:1. David says “Lord, you seem so far away when evil is near! Why do you stand so far off as though you don't care? Why have you hidden yourself when I need you the most?” The bottom line is I think you can relate quite well to David's thoughts and feelings here. David says a little later on in the same chapter about how grateful he was that he could still trust in God to be his helper, knowing that God heard his cry and bring the comfort to his heart. Dear Papa, help me and my friend not to give in to the lie of you being so distant and uncaring. May our fai

A Spiritual Release!

GOD PAUSE: One of the things I just love about our heavenly Father is how he will drop a thought into the heart and then show us its truth from the Bible later. I've often said and felt that something magical happens every time a Jesus follower crosses the path or connects in some way with another. Then I just read Paul's words in Romans 1:12 that says “Now this means that when we come together and are side by side, something wonderful will be released. We can expect to be encouraged and comforted by each others faith!” Dear Papa, help me and my friend to value our connections with other Jesus followers, even in just passing through each day. May the spiritual release take place. Amen and am

Follow God, No Matter What!

GOD PAUSE: I began my journey with the Lord almost 55 years ago now. And what a journey it has been, too! I remember a song we'd sing in our youth group that had the words “I have decided to follow Jesus....no turning back, no turning back.” David says in Psalm 119:23 “For even if the princes and my leaders choose to criticize me, I will continue to serve You and walk in Your plans for my life.” Dear Lord, help me and my friend to live with such a resolve --- to follow and stay true to You, no matter what. Even if it's not popular. Even if we are criticized or ridiculed for it. Because that is where true happiness lies. Amen and amen.

Get Your Praise On!

GOD PAUSE: I learned something new during my quiet time this morning --- that Psalm 117 may have been the hymn that Jesus sang when he left the supper to head out to the Garden of Gethsemane. Psalm 117:1 says “Let everyone everywhere shine with praise to Yahweh! Let it all out! Go ahead and praise him!” Isn't it so powerful that in his darkest, most challenging time, Jesus' heart was full of praise to his heavenly Father? Knowing that what lied ahead of Him, testing his faith, Jesus was focused on what mattered most to him. Dear Lord, it's no wonder that praising you is called the gateway into your presence. May it be so in our lives every day. Even today. Amen and amen.

Speak Words of Faith

GOD PAUSE: You know, just because you love God and try to do the right things it doesn't mean it will always be smooth sailing. Sometimes you will be surrounded by fear. You will face traumatic challenges or go through hurtful experiences. But it if vital that you and I do two things that David talks about it Psalm 116:10,11. He says “Even when it seems I'm surrounded by many liars and my own fears, and though I'm hurting in my suffering and trauma, I will stay faithful to God and speak words of faith.” You WILL come out on top. You WILL be victorious if you --- not matter what --- keep you walk with God intact and continue to speak God's words over your life. Be blessed as you do, my friend

Fresh Oil for a Fresh Day!

GOD PAUSE: Well, a very BIG “Good Morning!” to you, my dear friend. I woke up today with such a desire, ending in a prayer. I asked the Lord for fresh oil. Knowing that oil represents God's fragrance and His Presence, I know I need it more and more in my everyday, walk-a-round life. And the people I come into contact with need something of God as well. I was reminded from Psalm 92:10 that says “Your anointing has made me strong and mighty. You’ve empowered my life for triumph by pouring fresh oil over me.” Dear Lord, that's exactly my need right now. Pour out your fresh oil on me. When that happens, I and the people around me, will sense more of You and experience more of your power. Amen an
